Free Ebook: Crab-Bags & Other Bean-Beings

by Rachel Paxton

Here’s another freebie for you. This is a free ebook that shows you how to make your own animal bean bag stuffed toys. This ebook by Margaret Park features patterns and stories that were sold by the National Wildlife Federation’s Ranger Rick Book Club for many years.

These bean bag animals are very easy to make. You don’t even need a sewing machine to make them. They are a suitable craft idea for kids ages 10 and up, and you can make them from leftover scraps of fabric. They also make great gifts. When you visit her site to download Crab-Bags & Other Bean-Beings, check out the link to her new book about how to introduce multiplication facts to kids through song.

Book Review: “Counting Kisses” Board Book

by Rachel Paxton

I have never reviewed a book for babies, but this board book by Karen Katz is great. It’s called Counting Kisses.

My boys weren’t that impressed with it when we first got it, but after their baby brother came along and we started reading it to him, they got a huge kick out of it.

The book starts out with “My tired little baby, do you need a kiss?” The rest of the book goes through all the baby’s body parts, talking about kissing the baby from head to toe before he or she goes to sleep. It is adorable. My preschool-aged boys have had a ball kissing their baby brother from head to toe. They keep asking me to read it to them again. It is definitely a keeper! It would make a great gift for a new mom.
